The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced Tuesday the names of laser researchers Arthur Ashkin and Gerard Muru and Donna Strickland for the award.
Canadian researcher Donna Strickland is the third woman to win the Nobel Prize in Physics after Maria Curie and Maria Gopert-Mayer. After 55 years, a woman received Nobel Prize in this category.
And 96-year-old American researcher Arthur Ashkin is the oldest scientist of the Nobel Prize in Physics.
Half of the 90 million Swedish cronors will receive Ashkina. And the other half share Murura and Strickland. On 10 December, Sweden will be awarded the prize in their official form in Sweden's capital Stockholm.
